Equine portrait

This is our horse, Thea. I was very eager to do this particular equine portrait, as you can imagine. She’s a liver chestnut, a color of horse which I really love. She’s a rich deep red, not the coppery orange of a regular chestnut. Funny enough, she is exactly the same color as Oscar, our dachshund; I know this because we clipped her mane and I brought some home and compared it to Oscar’s coat…it was an exact match!

The most challenging part was the highlighting on her cheek and down the front of her face. I used oils which were soooooo wonderful to work with, and I really took my time with it. It’s hanging in my office at home.
